Our body consists of a lot of bones, nerves, ligaments and tendons with each of them having a crucial role to perform in order to keep the body active and free from any disability. One such nerve is the sciatic nerve, which is indeed the longest nerve and can also be quite thick at one point. It begins at the base of the lower spine and extends up to the back of the individual’s knee. All of us have two such nerves that begin from either side from the spine base and continue on their path down the thighs to the back of the knees before fanning out into other equally important nerves that end at the feet.

Sciatic nerve
It is due to the sciatic nerves that we are able to experience sensations and are also able to exercise control on the lower extremities of our body. The movement of our hips, knees as well as feet can only be possible if these nerves are functioning properly. The sciatic nerves act as transmitters of signals arising from these body parts to the spine and from there to the brain. Their strategic spinal base position enables them to carry out this function instantaneously.
Each of the sciatic nerve are further divided into two parts – the first part referred to as the articular part enables control of the hip joint and the second part which is referred to as the muscular part exercises command over the leg muscles as well as feet muscles and facilitate their smooth movements.
The condition of sciatica is a well known one and happens when any one of the sciatic nerves gets compressed. This condition can cause tingling as well as severe pain to the individual and this can occur anywhere starting from the spinal base to the feet and is usually restricted to any one side of the individual’s body. Many individuals also report a feeling of having got an electric shock when they try any movements and that is a sure case of one of the sciatic nerve having got compressed due to the action of cartilage, muscles or bones.
Those individuals experiencing such sensations, however mild they may be should not ignore them and report the problem to a good doctor. Early detection like in most conditions can be very useful in restricting any damage the condition might cause going ahead. People who have been involved in a car accident and are experiencing such sensations should immediately report the same to their doctor in order to take immediate corrective action so that any problem to the spine or thighs is avoided.

The computer has enabled many of the businesses to reduce the paperwork involved. Companies are trying to achieve the concept of a paperless office, as all the important data can be saved on the computer. If you have recently met up with your doctor or a hospital, then you would have experienced this. The authorities no longer use paper records. In fact, everything is stored as electronic medical records on the computer.

Electronic Medical Records
Mentioned below are some things which you need to give thought to:
Electronic medical records (EMR) enable easy updating. One is able to read the prescriptions and notes made by the doctor or medical authorities. Doctor’s handwriting is famous and is now a thing of the past and we do not have to strain our eyes.
As they are electronic records, they are 100% accurate and the latest information provided on the records is precise and there is hardly any room for ambiguity.
The National Programme for IT (NPFIT) has been of great help as a complete record of the patients is available at any time and at any location. The method is very effectual and efficient and the doctors are able to get the medical records of a patient at the click of a mouse button. Unnecessary time, effort and money is not wasted in sending the reports to the doctors. The records are accessible to new doctors who handle the case.
As far as security is concerned, NPFIT is 100% secure. Only concerned people would be provided accessibility to the site and records of patients. Moreover, they are more secure and safe as compared to the hard copies of printouts of the patients. There are greater chances of these hardcopy printouts getting lost or damaged due to natural calamities like fire, flood and so on.
X rays, ultrasound scans can be sent across and exchanged between different locations and they are 100% secure as compared to emailing scanned images or sending the reports by courier service.
The entire history of the patient and medical reports can be captured on the computer. Moreover, the doctor also gets an idea of the background of the patient, the medication the patient is undergoing and so on. Unlike, paper records, they will not get lost or misplaced. These records are environmental friendly ways to protect trees and save mankind. They are better than paper records and saves considerable NHS money. Doctors and their assistants spend valuable time recovering the patient’s papers. This problem is now sorted out thanks to EMR as the records and data are available at your fingertips.
Thanks to the electronic medical records, space problems are sorted out. Medical associations and doctors facing space constraint difficulties are now more relaxed and at ease, as they do not have to set aside any dedicated space for the patient’s records. The space can be fruitfully utilised for treating patients, providing treatment and so on.
Practice management software helps healthcare companies and professionals to handle multifaceted practice management tasks. This software is greatly beneficial to both medium as well as large medical organisations, hospitals, billing companies and so on. The Practice Management software is completely incorporated with the EMR software which lends perfect medical software solutions which take care of both clinical as well as administrative matters.

The percentage of people suffering from arthritis is increasing at an alarming rate. Arthritis causes lot of pain and discomfort in the joints. Some parts affected by this disease are knees, elbows and ankles. Joint inflammation is the main symptoms of arthritis and the joints also become red and get swollen. Injury or damage of joint tissue is another cause. Tissue damage leads to pain which leads to a muscle pull. The condition worsens when there is stress on the affected joint.

There is no hard and fast rule that the disease attracts only elder people. Even young people get this condition, irrespective of their race, gender or age group. There have been cases where six month old babies have attracted this condition. People over the age of forty have greater chances of arthritis.
There is a variety of factors which accelerates the risk associated with arthritis. Sports injury is one such factor. The affected person should not discontinue the treatment as the condition could worsen and it could lead to grave problems at a latter date. Obesity is another major factor. People who are overweight by thirty pounds have a greater chance of getting affected. All those excess pounds which you accumulate exert stress on your joints which increase the pain and suffering. However, you can prevent this condition from worsening by keeping a check on your weight. Exercising daily and brisk walking need to be followed strictly. Moreover, exercising diet control helps to fight the battle of the flab.
Heredity is the third factor. Genetics does play a role but we cannot really do much about it. Ensure that you visit your doctor regularly and lead an active lifestyle. People who have a sedentary lifestyle get these problems very early in their life. The fairer sex that is women top the list when it comes to Arthritis, thanks to the hormonal changes which affect their body during various stages of their life. Hormonal imbalance also leads to overweight and obesity which indirectly strains the joints. Hence, regular checkups and visits to the doctor is advised.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a condition wherein the body organs, tissues and joints are infected due to inflammation. It is true that RA not only results in inflammation of joints like legs, elbows and hands, but there are cases of inflammation of heart, skin and lungs as well in many cases. As per statistics, the percentage of people affected by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is 1% and people between the age group of 40 to 50 attract this condition.
Some of the noticeable symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis in the initial stages include pain the cervix region, swelling of joints of hands and feet. Synovitis is the advanced stage of Rheumatoid Arthritis. In this condition, the membranes which surround the joints get inflamed. When the condition worsens it could lead to deterioration of the synovial lining, deformation of joints and functional problems. People suffering from this condition may find it difficult to perform their normal daily functions or routine. Other side effects include problems like skin problems, formation of nodules surrounding the joints, skin fragility, Sweet’s syndrome and skin thinning are other skin conditions which may rise due to Rheumatoid Arthritis.

It is generally seen people try to treat acne and do not take physicians or a dermatologist’s advice. Most of the times, the treatment is based on misconceptions.
Here are some myths about acne:
- The cause of acne is the dirt inside the pores. This is true to certain extent and is also a potential factor but over washing the face for this purpose does not solve the problem but it aggravates it.
- Acne get cured without treatment. Actually acne can be treated but it can not be cured. In absence of treatment there is a risk of scarring.
- Applying the pimple cream on the pimple treats it. Actually the whole face should be treated even in asymptomatic condition.
- Bad diet can cause acne. Greasy foods, chocolates, coffee and fatty foods are believed to cause acne. Diet plays a role in acne formation but beyond that hormones and heredity are more important factors. Iodine containing foods like seaweed, shellfish or iodized salt do cause acne.
- Good skin is due to health diet. It is not so straight forward thing.
- Acne is caused due to make up. Actually the make up products are based on research and care is taken that they do not clog the pores. If exercise is done wearing the make up then there is excessive sweating and the sweat can not come out of pores and they get clogged which contributes towards acne flare up.
- Acne gets cured by sweating caused during exercise by cleaning the pores. Actually exercise cause over production of oil, sweat heat and friction on the back and chest and this causes acne flare up in these regions.
- Acne is caused due to stress. This myth is true to a certain extent but it is exaggerated. Stress may aggravate hormone production and thereby oil production.
- Sunscreen is responsible for causing acne. If the sunscreen lotion is oily or greasy then due to these things it can cause acne. Oil free sunscreen can be used without fear of acne.
- Sun is better for healing of scars and pimples. Mild sun exposure may heal acne but prolonged exposure worsens the condition. Further prolonged sun exposure can cause tanning and skin cancer.
- Laser is the ultimate solution to acne problem including scars.
- Acne can be treated by using skin drying products and stripes without taking physician’s advice. Actually over drying the skin can cause acne.
- Acne can be cures. No, they can be treated.

The blood from the placenta is referred to as cord blood. This blood develops in those forty weeks and it can be really helpful to your baby and also other children. Doctors have failed to appreciate the importance of the umbilical cord and the placenta. It is interesting to note that these organs do have tremendous potential. The medical world has become aware of this and they are now propagating this concept. Our babies are indeed lucky to have come into the world at a time when the medical fraternity has made profound progress.
The cord blood bank helps in treating diseases like chronic leukemia, stem cell disorders, inherited platelet abnormalities, lymph proliferative disorders, plasma cell disorders, brain tumors, ovarian cancer, autoimmune diseases, renal cell carcinoma, Ewing sarcoma and many more. The list is endless.
What is the process of extracting cord blood? A syringe is inserted into the placenta and the umbilical cord to drain the blood once your baby has been born. This does not affect the health of the baby in any way. It also does not hurt the mother. Before the due date of delivery, the parents need to register themselves at the cord blood bank. The mother would have to undergo many tests before this can be done. Though the costs incurred are a slightly higher, it could be life saving for your child or the siblings at a future date. Consider it as insurance for your child and the siblings against seventy odd diseases.
The stem cells extracted from the umbilical cord blood has a shelf life of twenty years. You could also donate it or sell the cord blood to a family who is need of the cord blood to save the life of their child. There are many medical organizations that require cord blood for conducting medical research. Stem cells are a preferred option as against bone marrow, because the stem cells extracted from the umbilical cord blood is of superior quality as well as quantity. Moreover, you do not have to keep waiting till you get a donor if your child has been unfortunate enough to attract the disease.
When a child is born, the umbilical cord of the child is abundant with cord blood cells. These cells need to be stored at the Cord Blood Bank as they are life saving cells. These cells have the potential of saving lives of at least three family members.
Research has shown that Cord blood has the potential of blending with any individual’s blood system. The umbilical cord serves up to two cups of cord blood. Since they are new, they have the ability to mature into three varied cells, namely white or red cells and also platelets. The cord blood cells have been helpful during blood transfusions, increasing the immunity level, creating new cells to fight life threatening diseases and so on. It has been established that the cord blood bank not only helps in curing diseases but also nips off the cause for the disease altogether.
Cord Blood Bank is indeed a blessing in disguise!

As with most diseases you will find that there will be complications. Diabetes is no different. Diabetes can be something that is very difficult to endure, depending upon your tolerance for pain. It is not an easy disease to live with as many times it can involve daily monitoring and meds. This is no life to live and it can definitely rub you thin regardless of how strong or tolerant you think you are.
Luckily, with the recent developments of medicine and science, Diabetes has become a perfectly manageable condition. However, if a sufferer remains undiagnosed, or if it is not treated correctly, it can lead to a variety of different health problems. The high level of glucose within your blood can cause damage to your blood vessels, nerves, and organs. This can leave a long term effect on your health.
If you do suffer from either type 1 or type 2 Diabetes then there are some long term conditions which you are at a much higher risk of suffering. These are: heart disease and stroke, nerve damage, retinopathy and kidney disease. None of which are fun to have.
As the blood vessels become damaged, the body may become starved of oxygen. This can result in chest pains known as angina. Sufferers of diabetes will find that it also increases the chance that a blood vessel in your heart or brain could suffer from a blockage. This can cause heart attacks, or a stroke.
Many suffers from Diabetes will also complain of a tingling or burning sensation up their limbs, or in fingers and toes. The small blood vessels of your nerves can become damaged due to the high blood glucose levels, causing your nerves to become damaged and tingle. If other areas, such as the digestive system, are affected, suffers can become nauseous, or suffer from problems such as diarrhea and constipation.
Retinopathy is a condition where the retina becomes damaged. The blocked blood vessels within the sufferer’s eye may become broken, or grow dangerously. In left untreated, it can lead to damaged or even lost vision. This is also how kidney disease may be caused. The blood vessels cause the kidneys to work less effectively. In severe cases this could lead to kidney failure, and the sufferer may require a transplant.
Not everyone who has diabetes exhibits many or all of these diabetes complications. Through proper diabetes management diabetes complications can be reduced to little more than small annoyances that can be relatively pain free. Following a regimen that is prescribed by a proper medical authority could also decrease the chances of having diabetes complications.
Diabetes is a very serious disease that needs to be addressed and regulated. Ignoring possible symptoms or prescribed medications could lead to many of the diabetes complications listed below. The worst part is that it is not limited to the complications such as heart disease and kidney failure, but it could also prove to be fatal. This makes it important to follow the proper instructions from your physician.

Researchers found that people who had a disruption of marriage, like divorce or death, were in worse health than those who remained married.
Now what is Divorce?
According to wiki , divorce or dissolution of marriage is the final termination of a marriage, canceling the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage and dissolving the bonds of matrimony between two persons. In most countries, divorce requires the sanction of a judge or other authority in a legal process to complete a divorce.
Divorce laws are different in every state and can be very complex, so when possible you should contact a family law attorney with domestic violence expertise before taking any action to divorce your abusive spouse.
The Chicago University study found divorcees who didn’t remarry suffered the greatest ill-health due to a drop in income, and a rise in stress related to shared child care and possible custody issues.
DIVORCE has a huge impact on your health, even if you remarry, a study found divorced or widowed people have 20 per cent more chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer than married people, and also suffer more mobility problems such as having trouble climbing stairs and walking. Research to be published in the Journal of Health and Social Behaviour reveals that interviews with more than 8000 people found they entered adulthood with a “stock” of health and each time a person divorced or was widowed they lost a chunk, putting them at risk of chronic illness.
Sociologists have studied the effects of marriage for some time, trying to figure out whether it’s beneficial in a variety of ways. They’ve found that marriage appears to boost health, especially among men, said Waite, director of the University of Chicago’s Center on Aging.
People who remarried were somewhat less likely to have these problems than those who had stayed single but still more problems than those who remained married. The research did not confirm that the end of a marriage directly lead to poor health. To definitively confirm a cause and effect, researchers would have to randomly assign people to stay married or stop being married, the research has found that women and men who were recently divorced had weaker immune systems than those who had been divorced longer. “We also found that it mattered if you had chosen the divorce, or if your spouse was the one who asked for it,” said Kiecolt-Glaser, director of health psychology at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. “You are better off being the one who walked rather than the one who was left behind.”

What is High Blood Sugar?
High blood sugar means there is too much glucose (sugar) in the body. A normal glucose level will vary slightly from one lab to another, anytime the glucose is above 140, it is too high.
Blood sugar levels are one of the most important foundations of sound health. Over time, chronically high or heavily fluctuating blood sugar levels can inflict enormous hidden damage as the excess glucose combines with proteins, collagen, and enzymes, and reacts with cellular DNA.How do you balance blood sugar levels to maintain a constant supply of energy . to the cells without glucose overkill. By eating a low-glycernic,, high-fiber diet. This results in a steady stream of glucose into the blood. The best foods include rolled oats, dried apricots (which have one of the lowest percentages of sugar among fruits), cracked barley, buckwheat, millet, and brown rice. There are also two sweet-tasting dietary supplements that are virtually calorie-free having a glycemic index of 0, and are packed with other health benefits: Stevia and FOS. These supplements are not just ideal for diabetics but for anyone interested in managing erratic blood sugar levels, such as those with reactive hypoglycemia.
High blood sugar is the hallmark of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. For people with type 1 diabetes, hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) occurs when you don’t have enough insulin to control your blood sugar levels. If you test your blood sugar and find that it is 180 or higher, you have hyperglycemia.
For most people, stress is simply annoying or unpleasant; for people with diabetes, it can have a direct impact on health. Stress hormones can cause blood sugar to rise and you may need more insulin or other medications to control blood sugar when you are under stress (being sick or physically injured can also do the same). Your response to stress, however, can exacerbate the problem. If you skip meals, neglect exercise, or tend to eat poorly, your blood sugar may become too high or too low.
Causes of High Blood Sugar
Few simple reasons can account for your blood sugar getting too high:
* You didn’t take your medicine when you were supposed to.
* You aren’t exercising enough.
* You ate too much.
* You are sick or stressed out.

Symptoms of high blood sugar
High blood sugar may produce few or no symptoms. When there are symptoms of:
1) Fatigue or drowsiness: Fatigue occurs when the glucose in your body is not properly being converted to energy. The result is that the loss of energy in your body makes you tired.
2) Frequent urination or increased urination during the night: When there is excess blood glucose in the bloodstream, and the body cannot convert the blood sugar to energy, it is processed through the urinary tract. Increased urination can be a symptom of high blood sugar and is usually a result of the person consuming more fluids due to increased thirst.
3) Vaginal Yeast Infections (in women): Increased glucose levels also affect the urinary tract. Not only is yeast infection a sign of high concentration of blood glucose, someone with high glucose levels in their body is also at risk for urinary tract infections, kidney infections, as well as kidney stones.
4) Increased Thirst: This is due to the brain’s response to the excess sugar. It reacts by making the body thirsty so that the bloodstream can be diluted, resulting in an attempt to lower the blood sugar concentration.
5) Blurred Vision: Blurred vision as a result of increased glucose levels can lead to more serious diseases of the eye such as diabetic retinopathy which results from damage to the retinal blood vessels from prolonged periods of high blood sugar.
6) Weight loss, or increased appetite.
Note that these symptoms of high blood glucose may or may not occur in any combination. The root cause of these signs is that the excess glucose in the bloodstream has thickened, resulting in various organs responding to the excess sugar.
Why control blood sugar levels?
When very high levels of blood glucose are present for years, it leads to damage of the small blood vessels. This in turn increases your risk of developing late-stage diabetes complications including:
* retinopathy (eye disease)
* nephropathy (kidney disease)
* neuropathy (nerve disease)
* cardiovascular disease, such as heart attack, hypertension, heart failure, stroke and problems caused by poor circulation, e.g. gangrene in the worst cases.
With Type 1 diabetes, these complications may start to appear 10 to 15 years after diagnosis.
They frequently appear less than 10 years after diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, because this type of diabetes is often present for years before it is recognized.
By keeping the blood sugar level stable, you significantly reduce your risk of these complications. However, untreated high glucose levels (or hyperglycemia can result) can result in the hardening of the arteries due to the excess levels of glucose in the blood which causes damage to vessels. The longer the signs of high blood sugar go unchecked, the more potential damage that is done to one’s organs (and body). The good news also is that if you are able to get your blood glucose levels under control, you may be able to reverse any adverse affects that prolonged periods of high blood sugar have had on your body.
