March 25th, 2010 -- Posted in Acne and Treatment | No Comments »

It is a sight nobody wants to see first thing in the morning. But unfortunately for those who suffer from the scourge of acne, they are forced to see their faces with new pimples almost every other day and that really saps their self esteem. So much so that they do not want to go out for the day and meet anybody.

Though a common belief is that acne signals the transition from childhood to teens, close to 90% of the population do tend to suffer from it at some point in their life. While some escape with a minor outbreak, others suffer a more severe outbreak and have to bear it silently.

Natural acne treatments

It is natural that acne represents a huge commercial opportunity for cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies. The numbers of commercials and advertisements in the print media as well as the visual media have been growing each year with many companies claiming to have come out with a cure for this condition. There is a lot at stake for these companies who have spent thousands of dollars on research and wish to capitalize on their successful experiments conducted during the course of this research. The scope for marketing companies has also been huge as getting across the message to the masses that this is a condition that can be treated does take for a lot of communication initiative.

Some of the more popular acne treatment creams and products have had their fair share of success and some other antibiotics have also been useful to people. But there have been many people who have tried all of these treatments and have not found a sustainable cure to their condition. They are looking for something that is easy on the skin, has no side effects and can provide them a cure that is for the long term.

This is where the concept of holistic treatment comes in. This form of treatment has been gaining ground over the years and many chronic ailments have been treated holistically for very good results. This method of treating acne naturally does away with all the side effects associated with antibiotics and other drugs and attempts to rid the body of toxins which lead to a better skin condition and that means lesser chances for acne to erupt.

This form of treatment is obviously not something that the big pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies would encourage as that would directly impact the sales of their products. However, if you can try treat acne the natural way and succeed, you will not only cure acne permanently but also boost your self confidence and image drastically. It will make you look forward to going out and meeting people and can really change your life.

So what do you need to do to start out on this new line of treatment? First of all, you must prepare yourself mentally to understand that this is no quick fix treatment and you need to be patient to see results. You must be prepared to wait for at least a couple of months to see definite changes.

Stresses of marriage potentially leading to depression

March 25th, 2010 -- Posted in Stress Management | No Comments »

It is difficult to ascertain the cause of emotional stress in an individual as there is no specific barometer or instrument to measure it. Yes, it may have its impact on the blood pressure and other vital signs, but those may not be conclusive. A person suffering from stress often tends to become irritable and angry. He also suffers from bouts of depression and tends to become withdrawn into himself.

marriage stress1 Stresses of marriage potentially leading to depression

Marriage stress causing depression

The causes may be problems with finance, job related stress, family problems and so on. It is not unusual even for school going children to experience stress due to the heavy workload of studies they are subjected to and the constant goading from their parents about the need to excel and compete with their peers. Some people are naturally stressed out and when you ask them about any specific reason for their condition, they will have nothing to tell you. It is in their genes to remain hyper and tense and may be their own body mechanism to deal with the problems in life.

However, it has been found that a lot of stress arises mainly due to family problems and particularly due to strained relations with spouse. The fact that there are so many divorces taking place is one indicator of how a failed marriage can wreak havoc in a person’s life and also cause him or her great emotional stress and depression. Happy marriages make for a healthy society and it is the family bondage that keeps individuals grounded and content in relationships.

People undergoing depression generally take to anti-depressants without realizing that these medicines can at best provide them some relief only for some time. After about a couple of months, the effects of these tablets start wearing out and when they increase the dosage to get the same effects, they undergo many side effects such as sudden gain in weight, lack of interest in sex and so on and that leads to greater emotional stress and depression. The use of medicines to deal with stress and depression thus need to be carefully weighed for its advantages.

Those suffering from emotional stress due to problems in their marriage will do well to visit a marriage counselor. A marriage counselor provides psychotherapy to couples through short or prolonged sessions depending on the requirement of the case and attempts to improve the relationship between the husband and wife. The causes of conflict may be many such as ego clashes, incompatibility in sex, constant illness of one of the partners, infidelity, not demonstrating affection and so on. Many of these problems can be solved if the partners are serious about their relationship and view the marriage counselor as a friend who is trying to sort out issues.

Of course, it is necessary to find the right marriage counselor in your area. You need to check out the qualifications, experience and whether the counselor is licensed to operate in that area. People living in Maryland can take the help of marriage counseling maryland to sort out their problems and any marriage stress that may have cause depression.

Natural acne treatment

What exactly is acne?
Acnes are kind of skin infection that are caused because of blocking of small pores on the skin. Our skin secretes sebum in order to moisturize our skin, naturally. When this sebum mixes with the dead cells and bacteria pertaining over them, they form a very sluggish, clumpy and sticky plug which blocks the pores preventing the oil and other waste materials to get released out of the body. This causes them to form into a swelling further developing a pimple or in other words, acne.

What are the causes of Acne?
There are various culprits (some of them are out of your control) that cause the formation of acne. Here is a small list of culprits causing acne:

Bacteria that thrive under your skin: Bacteria reside under the skin regularly. They form a very essential component in proper maintenance of sebum system. However, bacteria multiplies very rapidly in the presence of this natural oil and when there is clogging of follicle, then these bacteria multiply more rapidly causing irritation and inflammation which develops Acne

Excessive sebum secretion: Sebum producing glands when are stimulated by androgens, sebum is secreted excessively. When this increased oil mixes with the dead skin cells and bacteria, they increase the chances of clogging and further chances of acne.

Follicles that are not foliated: Dead skin cells as formed over the skin are gradually shed by body by expelling them on our skin’s surface. In few cases, especially those where the sebum secreting glands become overactive, the dead skin cells are shed by the skin more rapidly, which then mixes with the surplus oil forming a plug and causing acne to from over the skin. Skin’s natural process of renewing itself is also prevented because of this clogging which further worsens the case.  Apart from these causes, there are various other culprits including hormonal imbalance and skin inflammation which further acne to form over the skin.

Various Remedies to prevent Acne

There are various ways by which you can prevent acnes to form. These include:

  • Try to prevent over washing of your face. It can cause your skin to generate more oil and can cause irritation on your skin.
  • Avoid using hard face scrubs as they have the capability to tear your skin and further aggravate acne.
  • Don’t try to squeeze your acne as it can further cause the bacteria to go deeper into your skin and cause clogging.
  • Include lots of green vegetable, salads and fruits in your diet. Drink lots of water. Avoid eating junk food.
  • Exercise moderately. It is good for your skin. After exercising, have a shower immediately or if not possible wipe yourself with medicated pads.

Important of Dental Care

March 18th, 2010 -- Posted in Dentist | 2 Comments »

They say a smile is the only crooked line that can put a lot of things straight. That is possible and okay as long as it is the smile of a person with pearly white teeth to display and who maintains good dental hygiene. Nobody fancies looking into rows of jagged, discolored teeth or getting close to somebody with bad mouth odor.

Talking of discolored teeth reminds me of Chinese premier Mao Tse Tung, who seemed to have a wrong notion about going green. He actually did not brush his teeth at all and had green colored teeth. When somebody dared to ask him about them, he mentioned rather casually that tigers did not need to brush their teeth. I would like to think the person who asked him the question probably had the heart of a tiger. Imagine asking a person like Mao such a question.

Important of Dental Care

Brush twice daily

Dental hygiene is no laughing matter. It is only when your teeth are properly aligned and well maintained that you can pronounce certain words and syllables with clarity. Yes, your tongue also needs to do its job, but the tooth is that children at a very early age need to be informed about the unspeakable consequences of poor dental hygiene so that they develop the wisdom to take care of them right away. Yes, wisdom teeth are also very important.

So let us see how best we need to take care of our teeth.

To start with, brushing them twice every day should be a mandatory practice. This will prevent chances of any decay or disease of the gums creeping in. The toothbrush itself must be such that you are able to fit it into your mouth comfortably for moving it around in the circular manner as prescribed by dentists. And yes, be gentle on your teeth. Too often people get unnecessarily worked up about this activity and brush their teeth as if they are scrubbing utensils. The toothpaste is another important factor in the scheme of things and must have the mandated fluoride content to be of any use. Flossing them regularly is the last stage of dental care and as long as you can do this regularly, you should be having no trouble with your teeth. You can pick up more information about your teeth, flossing and fluoride at the site WorlDental.org.

We need to dwell on the art of brushing for a minute. It is not just brushing the teeth in a mechanical manner, gargling and spitting out water. You need to keep the brush at an angle of 45 degrees while using strokes against the gums. When brushing the essential and critical chewing surfaces, the brush needs to be kept flat for maximum coverage and effectiveness. The inside surfaces of the teeth have to be taken care by gently movements of the brush holding it at the toe end for maximum leverage and flexibility of usage. Finally the tongue – this needs to be in a back to front motion in order to sweep the debris of food right out of the mouth and that is not a tongue-in-cheek statement.

Coming to flossing, this is another task that has to be done in the right fashion and not appear as if you are in a tug of war. The 18 inch strand of dental floss has to be wrapped around the middle finger while releasing an inch of the floss. This has to be eased into the gaps between the teeth and a smooth up and down motion needs to be practiced to remove some of the stubborn debris trapped within them. You must ensure that you begin with the teeth at the back and unwind as you proceed toward the front.

Having said all of the above, it is essential to visit the dentist at least twice a year for regular checkups and to avail of the full spread of dental care treatment. You can also receive five-star dental treatment at unbelievable cheap prices at any of Dental tourism center around the world, see the dental tourism page for full details.

This span of dental care should encompass the diagnostic, preventive as well as informational elements so that you can always sport a lovely smile.

The diagnostic elements could include the following:

  1. Past medical and dental history review.
  2. Any changes those are visible at the moment.
  3. X-rays to determine any decay or oral problems.

The preventive elements could include the following:

  1. Total screening of the neck and oral region.
  2. Scaling and polishing to rid the teeth of all accumulated plaque, tartar.
  3. Scaling of the teeth to remove all plaque and tartar
  4. Flossing and fluoride application as required.

The educational part elements could include the following:

  1. Latest updates on dental care and products.
  2. Tooth brushing and flossing instructions
  3. Inputs on any specific diet to be followed.

As you can see dental care has more to it than mere brushing of the teeth. If you real care about your teeth or you want to start taking good care of your teeth from now on, you can get free dental care reports.

Nail Fungus and Ringworm – what are they and how are they related?

March 18th, 2010 -- Posted in Beauty | 1 Comment »

The fingernails and toenails of the human are built for protection – protection from bacteria, dirt, and other invaders. They are made from keratin, a hard protein found in skin and hair, It is comprised of the nail root, nail bed, nail plate, cuticle, perionychium, and hyopnychium. With all of this protection, it is hard to imagine anything getting in. This, unfortunately, is not the case. Fungi like to take root there. And once there, do not want to leave.

nail fungus Nail Fungus and Ringworm what are they and how are they related?

Nail fungus

Nail fungus is a common problem, mostly with the older population. Also called onychomycosis, symptoms include thickened, yellow, crumbly nails, typically in the toenails. It is caused from a fungus similar to ringworm. Diabetics and the elderly in particular are more prone than the average person, primarily due to decreased circulation issues. Trauma to the nail or even a pedicure can weaken the nail’s defenses. Nail fungus is very difficult to treat. Long-term therapy with oral antifungals is necessary to effectively eliminate all of the fungi present since the nail grows so very slowly. It can take up to 4 months before a difference is noted.

Ringworm, also known as dermatophytosis is very similar to nail fungus. It acts upon those who are immunocompromised, have poor nutrition or hygiene, have psoriasis or other inflammatory diseases of the skin, contact with affected animals, use of corticosteroids, or prolonged exposure to wetness, such as in a locker room or gym. It is also more prevalent in children. There are 4 types: tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp), tinea corporis (body), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea pedis (athlete’s foot).

Ringworm starts as a small bump that gradually spreads out into a circular raised rash that looks like a worm. Unlike nail fungus, ringworm is relatively simple to treat once diagnosed. Topical treatments with antifungal creams generally eliminate the problem within 1-2 weeks. Systemic treatment with oral medications may be considered if the rash is on the head or if the rash is not reacting appropriately to antifungal creams.

Preventing these infections is easier than getting rid of them. Keeping feet clean and dry is a start, along with using antibacterial soap, preferably one that contains tea tree oil. Sprinkling talcum powder on the groin and feet before putting on cotton underwear and socks also help. Since direct contact is needed for transmission of ringworm, not sharing towels, brushes or hats with another person is another way to avoid problems. Of course, washing hands frequently, using lots of friction and an antibacterial soap is one of the best methods of all.

How to treat Pimples?

March 18th, 2010 -- Posted in Acne and Treatment | No Comments »

Acne is caused due to sweat, dirt and excessive oils.

pimples How to treat Pimples?

Gentle cleanser can be used for washing the pimpled area. Face should be washed with mild soap and plenty of water at least twice a day. Cosmetic products such as astringents, scrubs and masks should be avoided as they irritate the skin. Due to irritation the problem can worsen. Skin irritation can also be caused due to too much washing and scrubbing. Frequent shampooing the hair is recommended to get rid of acne as the acne develops around the hair line.

Over the counter lotions containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can be applied as they enhance drying of excess oil and peeling of skin.

Greasy cosmetics, hairstyling products and sunscreen lotions should be avoided. The products labeled as “water based” or noncomedogenic” can be used for the pimpled skin. Therefore in such cases doctor’s advice is very important before using any acne medications. Also sunscreen lotion should be such that it does not block the skin pores.

Infection can be caused due to picking and squeezing of the blemishes.

Careful observation of the things touching the face should be done and it should be avoided like hair on face, telephone receiver and frequent touching by hands.

Gels available over the counter containing 5% tea tree oil are effective for the treatment of acne.

Supplements containing Guggul, Zinc and Brewer’s yeast are effective in treatment of acne.

To prevent new acne from developing after the cure of previous ones topical medications can be applied on the affected area. Taking oral contraceptives and light therapy are useful in prevention of acne. Use of powder type cosmetics than the cream ones is recommended. Over make up should be avoided and can be worn on special occasions only. Use of loose fitting cloths and taking bath after exercise is recommended. Make up should be removed before going to bed.

Identifying a Laser Lipo surgeon

March 15th, 2010 -- Posted in Beauty | 3 Comments »

Laser liposuction is the latest introduction in the field of medicine.  This revolutionary technique has changed the way liposuction was done earlier. The skill and expertise with which the fats are melted into a liquid is amazing and performing this requires dexterity of hands, skill and knowledge.  Only a professional with years of experience would be able to do a justifiable job.

Laser Lipo 300x180 Identifying a Laser Lipo surgeon

Laser Lipo surgeon

The liposuction technique basically deals with uniform fat melting from areas of your body.  It results in smooth skin without those ugly bumps and lumps.  It helps to contour deformities and lends a healthy look to your skin.  The procedure helps to tighten the skin and helps to get rid of loose skin.

There are a variety of liposuction machines which are used today.  Hence, it is important for every individual to understand the techniques and the machines used if at all you choose to go in for this operation.

The older lipectomy techniques basically helped eliminating fat by introducing a metal tube known as cannula underneath the skin.  The fat was sucked with high power suction. In this technique, there is rupture of fat cells and they are sucked out from the skin.  The other tissues underlying the skin also are sucked out.  Patients undergoing this, suffered lot of pain and discomfort.  Moreover, there was swelling and bruises.  The post operative care took quite a lot of time and there was slow recovery.

Though this technique was successful and was really good, the skin lacked a uniform look.  Many patients complained of loose skin after the procedure.  After this, came a new technique referred to as liposuction which involved placing a small laser fibre below the skin.  The fat was melted or liquefied in this procedure before it was removed.  The trauma and pain is less as compared to the older procedures.  There is less damage to the tissues. This method of treatment results in tightening of skin and lends a healthier look.

There are varied machines used in this operation.  Some of them are slim lipo machine, smartLipo MPX machine, Cool Lipo Machine and Lipotherme Machine

SlimLipo machine is used for liposuction to melt fat.  This 924 nm laser successfully melts thrice the volume of fat as compared to other machines.  The 924 nm/875 nm wavelength is also used for skin tightening.

SmartLipo MPX Machine is the first machine introduced in the market and successfully melted the fat.  The Cool Lipo machine has a 1320 nm laser wavelength which helps to dissolve fat.  It helps in better fat absorption as compared to the 1064 nm wavelength.  Lipotherme Machine is the latest introduction in the cosmetic field and it first melts the fat by heating water instead of fat absorption of wavelength.

The wavelength of the laser machine is of utmost importance as it decides the capacity to melt fat.  The greater the fat absorption, the simpler and more complete the process of fat melting. Laser Lipo is a surgical procedure and hence it is suggested that you go to an experienced and Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.  You need to check out the credentials of the surgeon by going through the website of plastic surgeons.

Visiting a Skin clinic of repute

March 15th, 2010 -- Posted in Beauty | No Comments »

The skin is undoubtedly the largest organ of our body and the major function of the skin is perspiration.  This keeps our skin and body cool.  Due to severe heat, we perspire a lot and we lose out lot of moisture from our body.  Excessive water loss results in wrinkles and the cells become flaccid.

Ageing of skin results in blemishes and wrinkles around the neck, chest and face and these begin to show. There is greater awareness amongst today’s generation to look and feel good.  This has resulted in the introduction of a number of topical skin treatments.  There are varied options available.  These treatments make use of certain acids which help us get rid of our old sagged skin and curbs new melanin from getting accumulated on our skin.

Skin Clinic1 300x198 Visiting a Skin clinic of repute

Skin Clinic

It goes without saying that our skin should be treated with care and gently.  In our race to get a soft and beautiful skin, we tend to ignore some of the basics. Every artificial skin treatment be it Botox shots, collagen shots or chemical peeling has some or the other side effect.  Botox treatment calls for a professional to inject the Botox dose of injections on your face.  This treatment keeps your skin flexible and stretched and you would get rid of those ugly wrinkles for some time.  However, the effect lasts for about three to four months and you may have to visit the clinic once again for administering the next dose.

This implies that for concealing those wrinkles for about four months, you need to shell out close to 300-400 $ every time you pay a visit to the clinic.

The same is true for collagen shots and chemical peeling.  The effect is short lived and it does not successfully treat imperfections.  These chemical processes help to conceal your sagging skin for some time.

The best thing which you can probably resort to is the usage of natural skin products.  They are made from ingredients which are natural and help in treating the root cause.  Skin imperfections like collagen loss, skin oxidation and damage of skin due to ultra violet rays can be treated by using these natural skin care products.  These products also make the skin healthy and nourish the skin with all the requisite vitamins and nutrients.

Keratin is a very important ingredient which lends the skin with minerals and vitamins and lends a glowing look to your skin.  It helps in growth of new and healthy skin cells and helps in production of natural collagen in the body.

Thus, to sum it up, good skin remedies are obviously those natural products which do not contain any chemicals.  If you respect and admire your skin and do not want it to suffer from the harsh chemicals, then keep away from artificial skin care products.

It is advised that you get an appointment with your skin specialist or dermatologist so that you know for sure the right treatment for your skin type. The dermatologist would be able to guide you with the best possible skin care treatment for your skin condition.  Be open and frank with the doctor and get all your doubts cleared.  You could also browse the internet and check out for natural skin care products which would suit your skin condition. It is advised that you go for any skin treatment to a reputed skin clinic, even if it means spending a little extra money.
