Prevention literally means thwarting or hindering in advance the onset of a specific action. In reference, the following text aims at explaining the essential preventive measures required to reduce the chances in a person from acquiring diabetes.

Foremost, it is of utmost importance that a person should not gain excess weight. Through exercise and physical activity, a person should try to achieve the specified healthy weight. This helps, as it brings down a person’s sugar levels and also helps him/her to boost the production of essential hormones required to breakdown the ingested sugars. These hormones essentially ensure a better regulation of the insulin levels. Regulating it through your diet is probably the best way to go although most likely it is one of the most difficult.

Maintaining a proper diet is a challenge in and of itself. Most of the time the foods that we like are those foods that we are not allowed to eat on the diet. This is something very difficult to give up. Depending on your nutrition and how disciplined you are the diet could be a fairly easy way of managing yourself, but it requires the right sort of discipline that not everyone has. Some people are better at this, and some people are not.

A person should also maintain a healthy lifestyle with a proper dietary intake. All the recommended food groups in the food pyramid should be included in your diet in the required amounts. It might also be useful to note here that if a person is overweight he/she should try to reduce the amount of sugars he eats. This helps by enabling the body to effectively breakdown the sugars ingested and keeps a check on the person’s weight gain.

Fiber-containing foods such as – fruits, green vegetables, nuts and beans, are also an effective measure to counter diabetes. A person should ingest a healthy amount of fibers as they help in the metabolism of blood sugars. By promoting weight loss, they further reduce the chances of contracting diabetes. A person should also include a generous amount of whole grains in his/her diet to minimize the risk of contracting diabetes, as these help by maintaining weight and increasing blood sugar metabolism.

Diabetes is something that can be prevented if you are genetically predisposed to it. This means that if it is not in your genes that you can prevent having diabetes. You can end up having diabetes through poor diet and obesity. This makes it something that you can prevent with a proper diet.

By observing the above mentioned guidelines, one can not only reduce his/her risk of contracting diabetes but can also clear the way for a healthy lifestyle.
